Who can be Hypnotized?
The simple answer is that everyone can be hypnotized so
long as they are willing and cooperative. Given intact nervous system,
hypnosis or trance can be used, to varying degree, with anyone. In fact,
almost everyone has already experienced trance in the ordinary course of life.
Hypnosis is a normal and natural state. Most healthy,
functional people experience trance regularly. For instance, you may
have, at times, been so
totally absorbed while reading a book, playing a sport or music
, or watching a movie that you did not notice what what happening
around you. Most people have. If you are among them then you have already
had a naturalistic trance. That naturalistic trance is the core capacity required for hy pnosis. The
hypnotherapist partners with you and your native capacity for trance, helping you
to deepen and sustain the trance and partners with you in the
process to provide guidance, care, and gentle feedback during the trance.
Shifting from normal waking consciousness to the altered
state of hypnotic trace is fairly simple. Making full use of the
transformative potential of the trance, however, really calls for the
involvement of a skilled and caring hypnotherapist.
